112: R&B’s elite ruling class

112 is a very talented R&B group from Atlanta, Georgia. The group members are Marvin “Slim” Scandrick, Michael Marcel Keith, Quinnes “Q” Parker, and Daron Jones. The group met in high school and started performing at talent shows and school events. They recorded several mixtapes before being discovered. mixtapes were the way to be heard at that time. The original group name was “Forte”. 112 was signed in front a club in Atlanta, Georgia called the “Buckhead 112 Club”, that is where they got their new group name.They were brought to the attention of Sean Combs by the production team Tim & Bob. 112 started out on the Bad Boy Record label and later were signed to Def Soul in 2002. They were very successful in their career from 1996 up until 2005. Their most notable accomplishment was winning a Grammy in 1997 for the song “I’ll Be Missing You” with Puff Daddy and Faith Evans for Best Rap Performance by A Duo Or Group. 112 has sold over 16 million records world wide.Their first album was self-titled and was released in 1996. The album went double platinum. The album first appeared in the top 5 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart, sold over two million copies. The album also had many hit singles like “Only You” and “Cupid”.112 also contributed to records by artists such as Notorious B.I.G, Puff Daddy & Mase. The group went on the road as the opening act for the Isley Brothers, the first of four separate tours. 112 have toured with New Edition, Keith Sweat, Puff Daddy and the Family as well as Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson.112’s second album “Room 112” was released in 1998. The album was certified gold and in 2002 record sales was recorded as double platinum.A third album “Part III” was released in 2001. It featured the hit “Peaches and Cream” and earned the group a Grammy nomination in the Best R&B Group or Duo category. The album went platinum as well.There were two other albums to follow, “Hot & Wet and “Pleasure & Pain”. “Pleasure & Pain” reached platinum status.The group have joined again to record a sixth album without group member Slim. It does not have a scheduled release date.Some of the members have ventured out to do their solo projects and have released some singles as well a mixtape.You can find 112 mixtapes on many mixtape internet sites.
