Piano Chord Chart: A Musicians Tool For Mastering Any Chord
Unlike my great- grandmother, I never got the hang of reading music. I took after her daughter, my grandma and play by ear mostly, but the piano chord chart has been a valuable tool for me in every respect. So if you play by ear, this chart will be an asset to you as well.
The Basic Chords
If you are just beginning to learn your chords, a basic piano chord chart will show you proper fingering for the straight chords, that is initial key placement. This is the base and where every other chord will work off of. Once you master the basic chords the rest will fall into place.
Sheet Music
On sheet music you see today, there are chord symbols on the staff. When examining a classical piece of music you will not see chord symbols. This is because back in those days it was not customary to write chord symbols. If you can read sheet music you know what is being described here.
Many classical musicians today have little knowledge of chords, and this is due to the fact that they are playing the music exactly as it is written on their scores.
Lead Sheets
Lead sheets are scores or sheet music with no left hand notes written. All you will see are the chord symbols above the melody notes written for the right hand. Once you apply what you learn from a piano chord chart, it will be easy to play virtually any song off of these lead sheets.
Improvisation
Once you master every chord of every given scale on the piano and combine this with ear training, improvising will be a snap. You will be amazed at the songs you can play using the knowledge you learn from a piano chord chart. It is a whole new world. Of course, some music theory should be studied as well, but all in good time.
Putting Chords And Melody Together
Once you learn even the basic chords on the piano, you can begin to apply virtually any melody-play hundreds of your favorite songs and even begin to write your own music. It is a fantastic feeling to put a song together and call it your own.
